A little about me..

Alongside specifically coding projects I have a passion for the strategic thinking of developing the right processes, workflows, architecture and tools that go into making software projects & products happen.

I love to be busy with new and interesting projects, so if you’re looking or in need of any tech work done please do ping me a message.

Professional experience

While working on a BSc (Hons) degree in Multimedia Computing I started contracting as a developer at Squint Opera – who were at the time known as Rancon.
After graduating I joined Squint Opera full time. I spent the following 8 years there developing games, apps & exhibition/museum experiences as well as ultimately managing the digital team which I had helped build up.
I held the position of technical lead at Squint Opera for 5 years and my role included not only delivering projects as a lead developer, but also shaping the companies technical process and building up the stack of modular tools & libraries that each project used as it’s foundations.
I designed and implemented a digital workflow, tailored to Squint’s bespoke requirements, which resulted in increased team efficiency, deliverable stability & communications at every stage in all projects.
In this role I was able to spent a lot of time experimenting and researching the best ways to build software, specifically for mobile, VR & AR. Each have their own caveats and from keeping on top of these new evolving technologies as they emerge, I’m always able to offer services that fully utilise the very latest of technology.
I’m a big advocate of, and in-fact co-programmer of, the Robotlegs sharp MVC framework for C#.
Robotlegs is a great framework that allows you to create very scalable code in a super manageable and modular fashion. It also removes a lot of the thinking required to plan out how everything in your application will talk to each other, so that brain power can be used focusing on the super interesting bits of code, not the plumbing.
I love to be busy with new and interesting projects, so if you’re looking or in need of any tech work done, please do ping me a message over on the contact page.
As well as freelancing I run the studio Yipikiyay. We have a team over there which focuses on own IP games, apps and interactives, working with museum and other studio clients directly. Yipikiyay

Outside of programming

I’m a father of three, I enjoy swimming, cycling and am proud to say I fit most stereotypes of a typical geek.
I’m very into board games, music, video games & coffee. I love tinkering with electronics and hardware. If I can open it up to take a look inside, I will.
I’m a keen drummer and am also able to play a handful of other instruments too (albeit badly). I enjoy rugby and am also a pretty good cook. Which is handy because alongside technology and the family, good food is the other love in my life.
I have a Gaggia Classic coffee machine, a Eureka Mignon mk2 grinder as well as a hasbean subscription. All of which helps me get going every morning or sometimes through nights of coding. I have an irrationally extreme dislike to the thought of sugar in coffee or tea.
I am strong believer that good coffee and good code work hand in hand.
